Shortly after little Hayli was found to suffer from acute myeloid leukemia, her doctor referred her to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where her treatment included five rounds of chemotherapy. To her parents’ relief, her cancer went into remission after the first round of treatment. After Hayli finished chemotherapy, she underwent a natural killer (NK) cell infusion, with her mom serving as her donor. NK cells are special cells in the immune system that target cancer cells. Hayli is now finished with treatment and returns to St. Jude for regular checkups. She’s a sweet little girl who loves to dance and sing, and she knows all of the words and movements to “The Wheels on the Bus.”
